Alhazred,
Brett's
solo music project
I'm both
left-brain and right-brain dominant.
I've been playing guitar since high school (over 20 years). My first
lesson, taken at a small music store with the excellent name of Lothlorien
Music in Olney, MD, was the very same day Ronald Reagan was shot by John
Hinckley (there's a song in there somewhere...). I'm kind of a 'jack of
all trades, master of none' when it comes to guitar, and have delved into
nearly every style of playing, including jazz, blues, metal, folk, Celtic,
Renaissance, and classical, to name a few.
I also play (or attempt to play) a mishmash of other instruments, most
exotic or "World Music" instruments. These include darrabuka (dumbek),
mandolin, ukelele, kantele (Finnish lap harp), laouto (a type of lute
popular in Greece and Turkey), zurna (a medieval predecessor to the oboe),
recorder, plucked psaltry (another kind of lap harp) and also have a
hurdy-gurdy that is in need of assembly.
I'm currently working as a software engineer in Gaithersburg, MD,
developing Voice over IP (VoIP) software. Other interests include Linux
hacking, 3D graphics & animation, sound engineering, cats, reading and
re-reading Tolkien to the exclusion of all else, and medieval history.
