Jay Jericho Jay has been beating on various surfaces since a fairly early age, keeping time with either foot or hand on desks, steering wheels, buckets, banisters, cans, bottles and pretty much anything else he has been able to get his hands on. So, when discussing the possibility of adding additional instrumentation to John's 12-string guitar on the songs, Jay offered to pick up a djembe and try to keep time with what John was playing. Over two years later, Jay has been directly involved in the composition of not only Revel Moon's drum lines, but the changes and moods of the songs as well. The initial djembe gave way to an Earth Drum djembe, kick drum, congas, bongos, shakers, hand cymbals, foot pedals and rain sticks. In the same sense, the initial time-keeping rhythm has given way to a more developed, vibrant sound. A tribal energy permeates the percussion section. The rhythms grow wilder and more passionate with each passing performance. |
